England and New Zealand to play in Women's ODI Final Media Release - 17 July 2002
Vodafone sponsor the England women's cricket team Following New Zealand's win over India today at Durham's Racecourse Ground, England will play the current World Champions, New Zealand, in the women's ODI final at Chester-le-Street on Saturday 20th July. The last match in the group stages will be between England and India at Chester-le-Street on Friday 19th July. New Zealand remain unbeaten in the competition, having defeated England by seven wickets on Tuesday 16th, and India by five wickets today. With England beating India and the hosts drawing with New Zealand last week, they have guaranteed their progress into the Final. England Captain Clare Connor said: "It's good to know we're in the Final in advance, but our match with India on Friday is very important to us. We've beaten them convincingly once in the competition and for our confidence going into the Final it's crucial that we put in another good performance against them." England were dismissed for 111 by New Zealand but benefited from some fine bowling and batting by the teenagers in the team, Isa Guha and Laura Spragg. The pair top scored with the bat and opened the bowling. Spragg replaced the injured fast bowler, Lucy Pearson, who has suffered a stress fracture to her right foot and will miss the remaining ODI matches, although should return for the Test Matches, which begin on 8th August at Shenley Cricket Ground. England will practice at Durham's Racecourse ground tomorrow, from 11am - 2pm. © ECB
