Eight of international cricket's 10 Test captains will meet at Lord's Cricket Ground next Monday, 15th July, for a day of top-level meetings with the ICC covering the running and management of the game at the highest level.
The annual meeting provides a rare opportunity in a busy schedule of international cricket for the world governing body and the game's most senior and influential players to exchange ideas and experiences.
The comprehensive agenda set for the meeting will prompt discussion and feedback on issues such as the image of the game, the volume of international cricket played, illegal bowling actions, playing conditions and the implementation of anti corruption measures.
ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed said the meeting was an important opportunity for the players to have direct input to the running of the game: "Over the past 12 months the ICC has regularly sought the views of the captains on matters such as standards of on-field behaviour, the new umpires and referees panels and Lord Condon's proposals to combat corruption. That feedback has been important in shaping decisions made by the ICC in recent times.
"We recognise that captains should have direct input into how the game is played and managed, and this meeting provides the opportunity for that dialogue to take place with the majority of the team leaders present," he said.
Captains confirmed to attend the meeting are:
Stuart Carlisle, Zimbabwe
Stephen Fleming, New Zealand
Sourav Ganguly, India
Nasser Hussain, England
Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka
Khaled Mashud, Bangladesh
Shaun Pollock, South Africa
Waqar Younis, Pakistan
West Indian captain Carl Hooper will not be attending and Darren Lehman, currently playing county cricket with Yorkshire, will represent Australia.
Sunil Gavaskar will chair proceedings, with input and presentations from Malcolm Speed, General Manager-Cricket David Richardson and Lord Condon, Director of the ICC Anti Corruption Unit.
Media Note: a media conference covering the outcome of the Captains' meeting will be held in the Brian Johnson Film Theatre, Lord's Museum, Lord's Cricket Ground at 5.00pm BST on Monday, 15th July.
Please confirm attendance, preferably by email, to ICC Communications Manager Mark Harrison.
