Somerset continued to consolidate their position of strength at the end of the second day of their championship match against Yorkshire at Scarborough. Resuming on 299 for 5, the overnight pair of Ian Blackwell and Rob Turner took the score onto 310 before Blackwell was out for 44. Turner was then joined by Keith Dutch, and together the `old firm' put on 130 for the seventh wicket before they were parted, Dutch ending with 74 and Turner with 63. Matt Bulbeck then added some lusty blows later on until acting captain Mike Burns declared just after 5pm with the Somerset score on 498 for 9. In the eighteen overs that were bowled before the close of play Yorkshire scored 48 for the loss of Matthew Wood who was LBW to Bulbeck. After the close of play Kevin Shine told me: "This has been another good day for us. It was a great batting performace from everybody on not a flat wicket, with some excellent individual performances from `Dutchy' and Rob.It was good to watch all round." He continued: "Tomorrow if we bowl as well as we did this evening it will be tricky for them. Bully bowled well and took the wicket at the end, and Dutchy made a couple turn." He concluded: "If we can show the consistency that we did today then things are looking good for us." © SOMERSET
