Mudassar eyes more victories 10 July 2002
Mudassar Nazar was eying more victories as the Pakistan cricket team enters the most crucial phases that leads upto next year's World Cup. The coach, who returned from England to join the training camp, said he was expecting that his boys would keep up the pace and would continue to produce winning results, like the 2-1 victory over Australia in the Super Challenge-II series last month. "It was a morale-boosting victory. But a lot of cricket has to be played upto the World Cup. Ideally, I would like to win everything that would enhance Pakistan's chances," he said. Mudassar said more tough cricket lay ahead of the Pakistan team. "It starts with next month's series in Tangiers," he said. Pakistan face South Africa and Sri Lanka before proceeding to Kenya to play Australia and New Zealand. Immediately, the Pakistan team arrives in Sri Lanka for the ICC Championship Trophy and then go to Dhaka for the three-Test series against Australia. Pakistan then embark on the safari tour where it will equally play four Tests and 10 one-day internationals in Zimbabwe and South Africa. The World Cup begins Feb 8 with Pakistan drawn to play Australia in the opener on Feb 9. Mudassar welcomed the appointment Trevor Chappell and Dennis Waight for the Pakistan team, admitting that fielding and fitness remained Pakistan's two weaker areas. © Dawn
