Spy cameras at Gaddafi Stadium Mohammad Yaqoob - 10 July 2002
The International Cricket Council (ICC) Commission on match-fixing in Pakistan has launched its efforts to curb the menace. In this context, it has started installing surveillance cameras and other sophisticated equipments to keep a check on the players activities in the stadium and team hotel during the Test and one-day internationals. The players pavilion and its surrounding areas would be under the control of the ICC commission. The keys of the pavilion and the gymnasium would remain in the possession of the commission during international matches. The visiting and home team would be under the surveillance of the commission during their stay at the hotel and travelling to the stadium. Three cameras would also be installed at vantage points in the stadium during the matches from where the activities in the pavilion could be watched. The points for the installation of cameras, as recommended for the Gaddafi Stadium, are the outer wall of the umpiring room, roof of the pavilion and at the main gate. The commission's representative Col Nooruddin Khawaja, is to hold a meeting on Wednesday with the management the team hotel and will seek their cooperation in lien of the ICC procedures. The commission will hold similar meetings at all the Test centres. © Dawn
