Veteran fast-bowler Devon Malcolm has been named as Leicestershire's Bland-Bankart Player of the Month for June.

During the month the 39-year-old pacemen claimed 14 Championship wickets, and also reached a career total of 1,000 first-class wickets.

He achieved that landmark during the victory over Yorkshire at Grace Road when he bowled Vic Craven in the visitors first innings.Malcolm went onto finish with six for 72 and then took four for 76 in the second innings.

At the start of the current match against Lancashire the former England fast bowler was again Leicestershire's leading wicket-taker with 31 victims having led the list last summer - his first at Grace Road - when he took 68 wickets at an average of 25.58.

Leicestershire secretary-manager James Whitaker paid tribute to Malcolm's success and remarkable longevity and said:"It is great testament to his pride and professionalism, and a result of the hard work he does during the winter to keep himself fit and in shape.

"He still has a fantastic enthusiasm for the game and above all else he is enjoying his cricket again."
