Bevan set to return Leicestershire CCC - 2 July 2002
Australian Michael Bevan looks set to return to the Leicestershire side for the County Championship match against Lancashire starting at Grace Road on Wednesday. Bevan last played in the Championship victory over Yorkshire a month ago when he scored 142 and 76 in the game. He then returned to Australia to play in a one-day international tournament against Pakistan - and Leicestershire have not won a game in his absence. Although he was back in Leicester last week, Bevan was not included in the side for the Norwich Union League clash with Notts at Trent Bridge last Sunday because of a niggling groin injury. He is still troubled by it and will have a late fitness check before a final decision is taken on Wednesday morning. But Leicestershire are optimistic that Bevan will be fit and available. If he has to be ruled out Rob Cunliffe looks likely to take his place. Definitely out are Jamie Grove who is suffering from an Achilles tendon injury, and Charlie Dagnall who is to have further surgery on his hip problem. So the probable Leicestershire line-up is: Ward, Sutcliffe, Wells (captain), Bevan (or Cunliffe), Maddy, Stevens, Burns (wicket-keeper), DeFreitas, Crowe, Whiley, Malcolm. © Leicestershire CCC
