Somerset pleased for Caddick on his Indian success
Richard Walsh - 31 January 2002

As he sat watching the India v England One-Day International this morning Somerset Chief Executive Peter Anderson told me, "The club is very pleased to see that Andrew Caddick has regained his place in the one day side, and has achieved what no other bowler has achieved by getting Tendulkar out."

The Somerset paceman, who withdrew from the England touring party that played against India in a test series before Christmas had been overlooked before todays game. However he returned in style for the fifth and vital game of the six match series at New Delhi by dismissing the Indian hero for 18 when he was caught behind the wicket by Jamie Foster.

The Somerset chief continued, "Andy is such a class act you would have thought that any captain and selector would want him in their side as soon as he was available."

At the stage in the game when it appeared that the Indian batsman were taking control he told me, "Watching Marcus Trescothick in the field whilst the England bowlers are being slaughtered he should reflect on how Northants felt when he played a superb Norwich Union League innings against them which was probably the most destructive one I've seen in the competition."

On that occasion Somerset having been set 215 by Northants at Wantage Road had raced to 155 for 1 before the heavens opened and prevented any further play. The Sabres opening pair of Marcus Trescothick and Jamie Cox scored their runs in 24.4 overs, before Marcus was out for 72 which he made off 65 balls and included 11 boundaries.
