Young all rounder targets a first team place this season
Richard Walsh - 30 January 2002

Young Somerset all rounder Pete Trego has set himself the target of establishing himself as a regular first team player in 2002.

Talking at the indoor nets at The County Ground on Tuesday evening he told me, "I'm batting and bowling very well at the moment and feel very strong. Hopefully this will continue and I will get into the first team and stay there this season."

The twenty one year old, who hails from Weston Super Mare has been spending the winter training hard. In addition he has been working for P.A. Fencing of Clevedon as a landscaper/ fencer. "It's very hard work," he told me.

For the past ten weeks Pete has also been playing football for Torrington, who play in the Screwfix Direct League. He has been playing up front and has scored three goals in five matches. Sadly however his appearences for Torrington have been put on hold because of a suspension he has received.

Life has been pretty hectic at home for Pete and his wife Claire after the arrival of their six month old daughter Amelia. "She's a real star," he proudly told me.

On Saturday Pete and his older brother Sam, who was on the Somerset staff for a season a few years ago will be travelling to Old Trafford to watch Manchester United play against Sunderland." I hope we see a few goals, it's along way to travel for a goaless draw," he concluded, before returning to the indoor nets.
