Maher appointed captain
Queensland Cricket - 30 January 2002
Jimmy Maher will take on the captaincy of the XXXX Queensland Bulls
following the injury to Stuart Law during the Pura Cup match against the
Southern Redbacks this week.
Maher was confirmed today as captain for the next month while Law
recovers from a broken finger, with his first appointment coming in
Friday's ING Cup match at the Gabba against the Victorian Bushrangers.
Maher, 27, initially won his captaincy spurs earlier this month when he
led Queensland to an ING Cup win against the Tasmanian Tigers in Hobart.
"It's a great thrill to play for Queensland but a bigger one to captain
the team," Maher said.
"I enjoyed captaining the side against Tassie and the fact we had a win
was a bonus," he said.
The Bulls trained this afternoon, with Australian One Day player Andrew
Symonds joining in with his State teammates after returning to Brisbane
this morning along with Andy Bichel. The One Day players will reassemble
in Perth on Friday for Australia's do-or-die VB Series match on Sunday.
The Bulls will train again tomorrow from 9am.
