PCB sets tough conditions 30 January 2002
The Pakistan Cricket Board has drafted a tough set of conditions for those keen on contesting elections of district associations that are bound to leave the 'professionals' by the wayside. Perhaps one of the most bitter 'pill' to swallow is a restriction on the age of the contestants, the upper limit of which has been set at 54. The minimum age of the applicant has been fixed at 18. The candidate would have to have a minimum qualification of matric, preferably with a basic computer course. The conditions, which are in line with the new sports policy and the newly installed devolution plan, also restricts the tenure of the office-bearers, which will be not more than two tenures of four years each for any post. The PCB has also sent out application forms to the associations which are required to be returned by Jan 31. The following is the complete set of qualifications that a candidate would have to fulfil to be eligible: 1.Academics: minimum matric or equivalent preferable with basic computer course. 2.Sports: Must have a fairly good knowledge of the game 3.Age: Not more than 54 years and not less than 18 on the day of the application 4.Reputation: Good. Not a convict, and no wilful defaulter 5.Nationality: Pakistani resident of the province/district for which applying 6.Political: Not an office-bearer of any political party 7.Assets/income tax: Copy of income tax return and declaration of assets 8.Tenure: Will be four years, not more than two tenures in any one office 9.Multiple office-holding: Is not holding office in any other sports body at district or above level 10.Government servants: All eligible to hold office subject to Clause 5. © Dawn Source: Dawn Editorial comments can be sent to Dawn at webmaster@dawn.com |
