ACB Travelex and ACB sign multi-million dollar agreement
Australian Cricket Board - 30 January 2002

Travelex, the world's largest foreign exchange specialist is now the official sponsor of the Australian cricket team for all overseas tours.

The five-year, multi-million dollar agreement will commence next month when the Australian team departs for the Travelex Australian Tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.

It will see the company join the ACB's select portfolio of sponsors and the Travelex name appear on Australian Test and one-day international uniforms while overseas.

Following the acquisition of Thomas Cook's global and financial services, Travelex has become the world's largest retail foreign exchange operator, the world's largest non-bank commercial payments business, the world's second largest issuer of travellers cheques and the world's leading provider of outsourced travel money to banks and financial institutions.

The new agreement follows Travelex's sponsorship of the Australian team during its successful tour of the United Kingdom in 2001, and will also include the exclusive rights to any Australia A and Australian under-19 tours overseas.

Commenting on the agreement, Travelex Chairman and CEO Lloyd Dorfman said the company was proud to be involved with the game.

"Travelex is delighted to continue its association with Australian cricket. Signing this new five-year sponsorship deal shows Travelex's absolute commitment to the game, a sport that plays an important part in Australia's history and culture," Mr Dorfman said.

"The Australian cricket team has enjoyed great success at home and overseas in recent times, and Travelex looks forward to playing its part in helping the side maintain its mantle as both Test and one-day international world champions," he said.

ACB Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said the Travelex announcement was a key indicator of cricket's healthy position.

"The ACB has a history of long-term partnerships with sponsors and we are delighted to begin this five-year association with Travelex," Mr Sutherland said.

"In a very tight sponsorship market it is encouraging to see that cricket is able to attract corporate partners that are prepared to invest millions of dollars into the sport."

"This is a very pleasing announcement for Australian cricket. It is an excellent fit that a company with expertise in the area of foreign currency exchange should join us to become our international tour partner," he added.

The partnership was brokered by Sportsworld Media Group for Travelex and the ACB.

The Australian Test squad departs for the Travelex Australian Tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe on 14 February 2002. Travel and media arrangement will be announced in due course.
