Worcestershire sign Matt Mason from Perth Media Release - 29 January 2002
Worcestershire CCC have confirmed their fourth signing of the winter by recruiting 6'5" Matt Mason from Perth in Western Australia. As an Irish Passport holder, 27 year old Matt qualifies to play as a non-overseas player. Matt is a fast-medium seam bowler who has played his Club Cricket at Midland Cricket Club in Perth and has represented Western Australia in both one-day and four day cricket including a tourist match against South Africa. He also played with Vikram Solanki, Alamgir Sheriyar and Phil Weston against the South Africans at Arundel in 1998. Matt is looking forward to the opportunity and says: "There is a great challenge ahead of me and one I intend to make the most of. The chance to play under Tom Moody was a big factor in accepting this challenge and I hope Worcestershire benefit from my presence." Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, believes the signing provides some variety to the team's bowling attack. "Matt is another victim of the great strength of Australian Cricket over the last decade. Through his EU qualification, he now has the opportunity to fulfil his dream of playing 1st class cricket on a regular basis. I expect him to perform well on the New Road wicket and give further strength to our squad." © Worcestershire CCC
