England cruise to victory over Papua New Guinea in Under 19 World Cup
ECB - 23 January 2002

England Under 19 defeated Papua New Guinea Under 19 by six wickets in the team's second match in the 2002 ICC Under 19 World Cup in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Chasing a target of 223, England cruised to 223 for four wickets in just 28 overs. The foundations of the run chase were laid by an opening stand of 103 between Nick Compton (58) and Kadeer Ali, who made 73 in just 43 balls. England captain, Nicky Peng, scored 41 off 31 balls, and Kyle Hogg 28 off 20 balls, as the team passed its target with 22 overs to spare.

Earlier in the day a third wicket stand of 129 between Frank Joseph (92) and Christopher Amini (58) enabled Papua New Guinea to post a respectable total of 222 for six wickets in 50 overs. England Under 19's key performers with the ball were opening bowler Kyle Hogg, who took two wickets for 41 runs in his nine overs, and the economical off-spinner Paul McMahon who conceded just 27 runs in 10 overs.

England's final group game is on Friday 25 January against Pakistan Under 19, who defeated Papua New Guinea but then lost to Nepal in their second match.
