Croft to act as Glamorgan`s vice-captain in 2002
Andrew Hignell - 17 January 2002

Robert Croft has been confirmed as Glamorgan's vice-captain to Steve James for the 2002 season.

The England off-spinner was delighted to be contacted by Steve James and invited to act as his deputy for this coming season. The spinner said: "I am delighted to take up the post in what is a massive season for the club. The club do deserve some success, and I think we have a squad of players to enable us to do that. Hopefully, I can pass on the experience I have gained at Test and One-Day International level to some of the younger players."

Croft takes over from all-rounder Adrian Dale who undertook the job last summer, and capably led the side in several matches when Steve James was injured. Steve James said, " Adrian did a good job last year, but I feel that we are both very similar in our cricketing thinking, and it`s always good to get different views. I think it is a good time for Crofty to step up to the vice-captaincy, and I feel that he will respond well to this challenge, which will be of benefit to the Glamorgan team."
