Cricket coaching review Tasmanian Cricket Association - 10 January 2002
The Tasmanian Cricket Association (TCA) is seeking expressions of interest from applicants for the position of State Coach. Part of a comprehensive review of the TCA's cricket coaching structure and resources, it is intended that the appointment will take effect from the end of this season, at the conclusion of the current coaching contract. TCA Chief Executive David Johnston said the review was in line with the game development policies initiated by the Australian Cricket Board. Mr Johnston said the TCA Board of Directors was determined to maintain a coaching structure in line with the requirements of the Australian Cricket Board and one that provides the best possible opportunity of on-field success for Tasmanian cricket teams. The appointment of current State Coach Greg Shipperd ends at the conclusion of this season and the TCA expects that he would be an applicant. "Greg Shipperd has been a fantastic servant of Tasmanian cricket, both on and off the field for the past 12 years, taking the Tasmanian Tigers to two Sheffield Shield (now Pura Cup) finals," Mr Johnston said. "His contribution has been enormous and he will be an extremely strong applicant." Mr Johnston said in the best interests of Tasmanian cricket, the TCA had determined to cast the net as widely as possible and was advertising nationally and internationally. It was seeking expressions of interests for either a playing or non-playing coach. "This is an exciting and challenging opportunity and appropriate remuneration and conditions will be negotiated commensurate with the position and skills of the successful applicant," he said. "The successful applicant should have a strong cricket background, competitive coaching abilities and good communication skills. "The principal responsibility of the position is to coach the state senior cricket team and squad. "There is also an expectation that the State Coach will play a leading role in the establishment of a coaching policy blueprint for all Tasmanian representative teams for the next few seasons." The closing date for the receipt of expressions of interest is Friday 16 February 2002. © 2002 Tasmanian Cricket Association
