Farhan and Asim slam centuries 11 January 2002
Centuries by Farhan Adil and Asim Kamal gave Karachi Blues a first innings lead of 146 on the third day of the Quaid-i- Azam Trophy Grade-I fixture against Rest of Balochistan at KCCA Stadium here Thursday. The inexperienced Balochistan side then laboured through the final session to score a mere 27 runs in 24 overs. Sabir Hussain (9) and Azizullah (11) have so far negotiated 72 balls each. Such was the state of play that a couple of cricket die-hards were found dozing off under the trees. Balochistan's innings, however, got off to a dramatic start. Mohammad Javed started with a wide that went to the boundary. But with the first legitimate delivery, the Blues skipper trapped Ali Ahmed LBW for a duck. Earlier, Asim completed a well-deserved hundred, having resumed at 86. He finally perished for 104 off 246 balls, made in 328 minutes and laced with nine fours and one six. The brightest batting came from Farhan Adil and Javed. Farhan (21 overnight) stroked 124 off 258 balls in just under five hours. His knock was spiced with 11 fours and three sixes. Javed remained unbeaten with 64 off 149 balls with five boundaries. The sixth-wicket stand between Farhan and Javed was worth 128 runs in as many minutes. © Dawn
