Dillon cleared of further disciplinary action. Derrick Nicholas - 9 January 2002
West Indies fast bowler, Mervyn Dillon has been cleared of any further displinary actions by the West Indies Cricket Board. This, following a meeting of the WICB's Disciplinary Committee. Dillon, who was sent home ahead of the start of the triangular one day series between the West Indies, Zimbabwe and host country Sri Lanka, has been ineligibe for consideration for any further duties with the West Indies team until his case was heard. Last month while on tour in Sri Lanka, Dillon refused to attend a training session fearing for his personal safety. A decision to send him home was taken by the Tour Disciplinary Committee. The WICB's Disciplinary Committee, which is chaired by Lennox John considered the charge and action against Dillon by the West Indies Tour Disciplinary Committee over the weekend. The Disciplinary Committee upon reviewing both, accepted the Tour Disciplinary Committee's recommendation that no further (disciplinary) action be taken against Dillon. This therefore means that Dillon is once again eligible for consideration for the West Indies senior team for their upcoming away series against Pakistan, now scheduled for the United Arab Emirates and the Sharjah Stadium in particular. Dillon was the third West Indian player to be sent home from an overseas tour. Former West Indies fast bowlers Winston Benjamin, and the late Roy Gilchrist were the other two players to have a claim to this ignominy. © CricInfo
