Milton stunned by rampant Cadnam Trevor Phillips - 8 January 2002
The three leading clubs in Division One all notched up big scores as the New Forest Indoor Cricket League got back into full swing following the Christmas break. Pride of place went to Cadnam who registered a stunning six wicket win against New Milton. Chasing Milton's imposing 132 for 4 (Lee Miller 31no, Dean Miller 30no), Cadnam cruised to victory with more than an over to spare. The Kerley brothers once again played a prominent part with Neil taking 2 for 39 and scoring 21no, and brother Paul compiling an unbeaten 29. There were also noteworthy contributions from Mike Caffyn (25no) and Steve Pollard (26). Third placed Bashley were comfortable winners against Esso. Shaun Lilley (49no) hit the highest score of the day and Brian Vibert smashed 36 as Bashley totalled 138 for 5 (Jason Ford 3-45). Esso were never in the hunt and slumped to 87 all out with Neil Taylor taking 2-4. Trevor Phillips (44no) top scored for Lymington in their 41 run victory over Swan Green. John McGuirk also struck a swift 30no in Lymington's total of 129 for 3. Paul Godley (24) and Kevin Gray (30) batted well for Swan but it was to no avail as Peter Tapper's two wickets helped Lymington dismiss their plucky opponents for 88. In Division Three Milford-on-Sea Seconds will want to forget their nightmare performance against lowly Pennington. Having been dismissed for 85 (Ronny Wilkins 20), their bowlers then conceded a mind boggling 63 wides, enabling their grateful opponents to canter to a 5 wicket victory without breaking sweat. Bashley Seconds continued where they left off before Christmas with another comfortable win against Esso Thirds. Replying to the Oiler's 91 for 1, Bashley reached their target for the loss of 2 wickets in the penultimate over thanks to the irrepressible Geoff Plummer (27no) and Andy McGregor (28no). The remaining Third Division match saw New Milton Seconds keep up their title challenge with a 14 run win over Esso Fourths in a low scoring encounter. Steve Vibert (30) and James Hayward (21) top-scored for Milton who were restricted to 93 for 5 thanks to some thrifty bowling from Alan Sturgess who took 2 for 13. Sturgess then led the reply with an unbeaten 28, but with Nick Gossip skillfully marshalling his troops and Hayward grabbing two wickets, Esso's reply fell 14 runs short. © SPCL
