Madanagopal stars in Tamil Nadu win Staff Reporter - 8 January 2002
Tamil Nadu won their Ranji one-day tie against Hyderabad at Visakhapatnam by four wickets on Monday, with J Madanagopal striking a fine fifty to lead his side to victory. Winning the toss, Tamil Nadu put Hyderabad in to bat. Their gamble paid off as, barring A Nand Kishore, none of the batsmen could really get a big score. Nand Kishore made 76 off 83 balls at the top of the order, and he was the eighth wicket to fall. His knock was the meat of a final Hyderabad total of 212 for nine in a truncated 38-over innings. Chasing 213 for victory, Tamil Nadu made it with five balls to spare. S Suresh, opening the batting, made 63 off 66 balls, but the real impetus towards the end came from Madanagopal. Making a steady 63 off 73 balls, he saw his side through to a four-wicket win, falling just three balls before victory. © CricInfo
