PCB clarifies current status on West Indies tour Pakistan Cricket Board - 2 January 2002
This is with reference to news report emanating from the West Indies, quoting Mr Wesley Hall on the forthcoming West Indies tour to Pakistan. The West Indies Cricket Board has expressed its concerns to the PCB regarding the security situation in the sub-continent. The PCB will address their concerns fully. It is in touch with the West Indies Cricket Board and will work out matters with mutual consultation. With respect to alternate venues, PCB was to work out the extra costs involved and match them with the reduction in revenues. The PCB naturally feels that the first priority venue of the series is Pakistan. Presently the circumstances inside the country are calm and quiet for cricket purposes. As the situation is developing towards an easing out of border tensions, it is fervently hoped that West Indies, when it finally is happy to tour here, will have tension free cricket, as probably will happen for the English in India. In the meanwhile Mr Clive Lloyd will be in the country on a short coaching assignment with the Pakistan Under-19s. He will also witness the cricketing atmosphere inside the country. Hopefully, a more clearer picture and a more firm decision will emerge in a few days time. The final settlement will be given out jointly by the two Boards with mutual agreement.
