Fair Oak claim top spot with comfortable wins Mike Vimpany - 25 February 2002
Fair Oak are back on top of the NatWest Under-16 Indoor Cricket League, just one point ahead of St Cross Symondians, whom they play at the Hampshire Rose Bowl on March 10. The top two teams play off for the championship itself on April 14 - and that could yet include Andover, whose final two games are against the bottom two sides. Fair Oak took a maximum 12 points off winless South Wilts and 11 against BAT Sports to nudge ahead of St Cross at the top. Paul Malone (30 not out), James Scutt (30 not out) and Tom Luff (20) led the way as Fair Oak rattled up 125-4 against the less experinced Salisbury side. Only Paul Roszowski (28) put up much resistance as South Wilts crumbled to 95 all out. Luff (42 not out) and Scutt (40 not out) combined again as Fair Oak scored an impressive 135-4 against BAT, who replied with 109-5 (Sam Walker 26). BAT had it easier against South Wilts, who lost their first two wickets without a run on the board. They scrambled to 92-5 (Vigar 2-18), but were unable to stop Walker (26) and Ricky Rawlins (27) from setting up an easy six-wicket win for the junior Tobaccomen. © SPCL
