Kirtley seeks to clear remodelled bowling action
Ralph Dellor - 25 February 2002
Sussex fast bowler James Kirtley, whose action was reported by ICC match referee Naushad Ali in Bulawayo in October, is to go before an England and Wales Cricket Board hearing on March 12th in an attempt to have his remodelled action approved.
Kirtley's action first came under scrutiny after unofficial complaints on the England A tour to New Zealand in 1999. He satisfied the ECB after that and has had significant success with Sussex in domestic cricket without encountering further problems despite the close scrutiny of officials.
However, it was not until he had broken through into the senior international side during England's one-day series against Zimbabwe that official complaints were made. He is now hoping that the remedial coaching he has received from ECB bowling advisor Bob Cottam will allow him to resume his career without further suspicion concerning his action.
