Nash set for opening spot
Queensland Cricket - 25 February 2002
The XXXX Queensland Bulls are set to look to a brace of left-handers to
open their Pura Cup batting challenge this week against NSW at the
Sydney Cricket Ground.
The Queensland selectors today announced the Bulls side to tackle the
Blues for their second-last Pura Cup match before the Final, with
captain Stuart Law returning to the four-day side after making his
return from a broken knuckle in yesterday's ING Cup Final loss to NSW.
Law comes into the twelve in place of opener Jerry Cassell (broken hand)
who is expected to miss the remaining two games, prompting the
likelihood that Brendan Nash will be promoted to open the innings with
the in-form Jimmy Maher.
Nash is coming off a maiden first class century for the Bulls, scoring
157 batting at number four in the outright win over the Southern
Redbacks at the Adelaide Oval, and has opened previously at first grade
and 2nd XI level.
The selectors have also included Michael Kasprowicz, who made his
comeback from a hamstring injury yesterday, with left-arm spinner
Matthew Anderson missing out.
Teenage left-arm pace bowler Scott Brant has retained his spot after
making his first class debut for Queensland against the Redbacks.
