New Zealand manager knows nothing of match referee's warning
Lynn McConnell - 17 February 2002
New Zealand team manager Jeff Crowe is unaware of any directive by ICC Match Referee Denis Lindsay to his team to curb bad language, send-offs for batsmen and excessive appealing.
The English newspaper the Sunday Mirror said today that Lindsay stepped in after New Zealand batsman and fielder supreme Lou Vincent was called a "f...... cheat" by an English player in the first game of the National Bank Series in Christchurch on Wednesday night.
Vincent claimed a catch from Andrew Flintoff which was ultimately given out after third umpire video analysis.
Vincent was reportedly abused as he went out to bat in Christchurch where he was dismissed first ball by Darren Gough.
Crowe said tonight that he was not aware of anything formal being stated by Lindsay, and he had heard nothing from Vincent on the incident either.
Lindsay was quoted as saying he saw England captain Nasser Hussain saying something to Vincent and he had decided to act before things got out of hand.
Lindsay was quoted as saying neither of the umpires reported anything of a serious nature during the first match.
