Hadlee throws down the gauntlet to his players, and to England
Lynn McConnell - 16 February 2002

New Zealand selection chairman Sir Richard Hadlee is keen to see his side do a "Prada" on England and take a 5-0 series win just like Team New Zealand did in the last America's Cup.

The CLEAR Black Caps went 2-0 up with a record-breaking performance against England in their second National Bank Series ODI at WestpacTrust Stadium in Wellington tonight when winning by 155 runs.

"We want it 5-0, but let's get to 3-0 first in Napier. We want it to be clinically complete," he said.

Hadlee was delighted that New Zealand so clearly out-played England in all three departments: batting, bowling and fielding.

"We need six or seven guys to perform in a match and that's what we had tonight.

"We took it to them in the first 15 overs. In Australia we allowed the Australian and South African bowlers to dictate the length they bowled instead of us dictating. We were taking it to England today and they had to do something.

"It was a most emphatic win. We saw some very able pace bowling with the new ball. Our line was better and the length was right," he said.

The development of Andre Adams continues apace and Hadlee has been delighted with how he has performed.

"He is going from strength to strength and the more he plays the better he gets.

"He gives us firepower with the bat in the last 10 overs. Originally he was seen as a straight at-the-death bowler but he showed tonight he can also be an attacking new ball bowler."

With Chris Cairns, Craig McMillan, Chris Harris and now Adams, New Zealand was developing a very attacking middle-order that could serve it very well in ODIs in the future.
