ICC TV show takes Cricket around the World
ICC Media Release - 12 February 2002
A weekly round up of the world's best cricket action will soon be available to fans, following the ICC's decision to launch an innovative new weekly television programme.
ICC Cricket World will be a fast moving 30-minute show with an exclusive mix of highlights, features and interviews. UK broadcaster Channel 4 has become the first major TV company to sign up for the series, which will go to air for the first time at 0830 gmt on Saturday, 16th February. Well known voices commissioned to anchor the series will include Sybil Ruscoe from Channel 4 and The Daily Telegraph and Adam Darke from the Channel 4 Roadshow.
"There is already enormous worldwide interest in televised cricket and this new programme will help expand that audience further." said ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed. "The TV show is important to the ICC as a way of building the profile of the governing body and as an example of how we are using our marketing and commercial influence to promote the game of cricket around the world," he added.
ICC Full Member countries have agreed to provide the programme with highlights footage from their Test and One Day International matches. In many cases this will allow viewers access to cricket action they would otherwise have been denied.
World Sports Group, the ICC's commercial partner which is producing the show, is in the final stages of negotiation with broadcasters around the world to screen the programme. ICC Cricket World will eventually be televised in all major cricketing nations and also screened in many of the ICC's emerging Associate and Affiliate countries.
