To all readers, assa - la - ma - lai - kum
At the moment the games at Labasa have finished but Suva and Nadi/Lautoka are having their second round. Suva Water Supply is leading the competition followed closely by the Army Team.
We are happy that Suva City Council has given Albert Park ground 2 for the
construction of a concrete pitch. This is in preparation for 2003 South Pacific Games. We look forward to using it in our next season.
I had the opportunity to represent Fiji at the I C C East Asia Pacific Conference in Melbourne from the 26th to the 29th of January, 2002. It gave me a better understanding of the operational structure of cricket in the world and the chance to meet administrators from other countries.
Teams have started selecting players for the upcoming Crompton Cup to be played at Nadi and Lautoka from the 28th of March to the 1st of April, 2002. No comfirmation has come from the overseas teams but we hope they do come to make this Annual event a success.
Our Junior Development Officers also have been doing cricket clinics in the
islands but they have this constraint of transportation, which is very irregular and the costs for the equipment.
Our nominee to the National Sports Award was Colin Rika, the Under 19 Fiji
team captain. In the team category we nominated the national team which
represented Fiji at the Pacifica Cup (Captained by Taniela Naulivou) and
finished as runners up in New Zealand last year.
More after the Knockout next month.
