Delhi, Karnataka record five-wicket wins Staff Reporter - 11 February 2002
All-rounder Sunil Kadyan was the architect of Delhi's easy five-wicket win over their counterparts from Gujarat on the opening day of the National Cricket Tournament for Blind. After winnings the toss, Gujarat aided by an unbeaten 87 from No. 3 Ramesh Bhola set Delhi a challenging 185 to win in the stipulated 40 overs. For Delhi, Inder Singh and Sushil Gaur claimed three wickets each while Kadyan claimed two. When Delhi replied, Kadyan, who opened the innings, went on to make 69 not out off 68 balls to guide his team to a five-wicket win. The other batting star was No. 4 Pratap Singh Bisht, who made 42. The other match of the day, played at the SPIC-YMCA ground, saw N Mahesh and Shekar Nayak guide Karnataka to a five-wicket win over Bengal. Mahesh made 40 off 49 balls while Nayak made a rapid unbeaten 40 off 32 balls as the men from Karnataka successfully chased 127. Earlier in the morning, Bengal after winning the toss, made 126 thanks largely to a 56 off 70 balls by opener Tapas Maity and a 33 from Mr Extras. BV Srinivas, who claimed three wickets, was the most successful bowler for Karnataka. Delhi and Karnataka are now perched on top of the league table with two points each. © CricInfo |
