Twin spin option for Bulls Queensland Cricket - 11 February 2002
The XXXX Queensland Bulls could boast a twin-spin attack for their vital Pura Cup clash with the Southern Redbacks at the Adelaide Oval from Wednesday following an injury to pace bowler Damien Mackenzie. Left-arm spinner Matthew Anderson trained today with the team in Adelaide after receiving the call yesterday to replace Mackenzie, who injured a hamstring playing club cricket for Redlands on Saturday. Anderson could pair with off-spinner Nathan Hauritz for a dual spin attack, with the Redbacks expected to utilise left-armer Brad Young and leg-break bowler Peter McIntyre if the wicket is conducive to spin. It will be Anderson's first appearance for Queensland since the start of last season and comes on the back of some encouraging performances at club and ACB Cup level. Anderson, who played 10 first class matches in 1999-2000, has taken 27 wickets at 16.04 for Sandgate-Redcliffe in the Brisbane XXXX First Grade competition as well as 11 wickets in three ACB Cup 2nd XI matches for the Queensland Academy of Sport. The Bulls (22) lead the Pura Cup competition by two points from the Redbacks. Bulls captain Jimmy Maher will captain his State for the first time in a first class match as well as play his 100th first class match for Queensland. Maher will join Stuart Law, Sam Trimble, Carl Rackemann, Trevor Hohns, Trevor Barsby, Greg Ritchie and Ken Mackay as those who have achieved 100 or more games for Queensland.
