Kent announce £40,000 loss Media Release - 6 February 2002
Kent County Cricket Club today announced a loss of £40,000 for the year ended 31 October 2001. This compares with a loss in the previous year of £138,000. Commenting on these results, Chairman, Carl Openshaw, said: "Although it is disappointing to report a loss, the results for the year show an encouraging improvement compared with the previous twelve months. Much of this improvement can be attributed to the Club's success on the field and to better weather, but good progress has also been made on the commercial front and costs have been kept under control. The finances of County Cricket remain in a delicate state and few Counties, other than those hosting Test Matches, are currently able to break even. The game's prosperity depends heavily on television revenues and on the success of England's summer international programme. In this context we are delighted that Canterbury has been included as a venue to stage One-Day International cricket on a regular basis and we look forward to playing our part in generating future revenue for the game." Kent members will receive a full report on the Accounts from the Club's Treasurer, Alister Dunning, at the Annual General Meeting to be held at the Ramada Hotel, Hollingbourne, Maidstone on 4 March 2002.
