Railways restrict Tamil Nadu Staff Reporter - 5 February 2002
Railways bowlers managed to restrict Tamil Nadu on the opening day of the clash between the two sides at the Karnail Singh Stadium, Delhi. Medium-pacer Harvinder Singh and spinner Murali Kartik, who claimed three wickets each, were the chief wreckers as Tamil Nadu ended the day on a modest 215 for seven. The Tamil Nadu top-order batsmen too will have to shoulder some of the blame for their team's not-too-happy position. As many as three of them got beyond 40, before throwing their wickets away. No. 3 J Madanagopal, who made 60, was the top-scorer. India star Hemang Badani, for his part, made a quick 40 before falling to Kartik. The other batsman to make a notable contribution was Sridharan Sharath, who made a patient 43. When stumps were drawn, TR Arasu was batting on 25 while MR Shrinivas was on 6. The duo had put on 21 runs for the undefeated eighth wicket in about 15 overs. © CricInfo
