Without any shadow of a doubt Jimbaran Junior Cricket team took the Terry Firmstone Junior League Championship, with an emphatic win over Kuta on Sunday at the Bukit
Set 101 to win from 30 overs, Jimbaran strolled home for the loss of only 3 wickets. Suda Arsa, Kadek Urip, and Adi Wiranjaya got the runs, after the bowling of Suda, Putra Dermawan, Nenga, and Putu Leo had proved too accurate and too fast for Kuta. E.g. Kuta's best bat – Aris Nasution was struck on the hand, retired hurt, only to return later and be bowled first ball-clearly intimidated by the pace of the Jimbaran bowling. Only Irfan 16, and Juliana 20 n.o. showed any resistance for Kuta.
Earlier the expat team-the Bravehearts, surprised everyone by snatching 3rd place from the Sidakarya junior Lubaks. Inspired by captain Chris Freeman and strengthened by Max Kirsten ,The Bravehearts scored 4-106 and dismissed Sidakarya for 91.
Presentations were held at the end of the final, with B.I.C.C. President Ian Jasper and I.C.F. President Alan Wilson, handing out the awards. This was the culmination of 4 months weekly comp with hard ball and pads. Certificates were awarded for 1st,2nd and 3rd place teams, whilst trophies and cash prizes were awarded for best bats, bowlers, fieldsmen, and most improved. Money for this was raised by B.I.C.C. members who must be thanked for this contribution towards nurturing club juniors at grass roots level. Special thanks must go to those who attended games an assisted with transport such as Jo and Mick Freeman, Brett and Janet Haysom, Ian Jasper and of course the inimitable Alan Wilson.
A schoolteacher clinic is to be held soon and the schools are currently being prepared to commence comps. Should be 6 high schools –hard ball- and 8 primaries-rubber ball.
