Bulls ING Cup team named Queensland Cricket - 30 December 2002
Australia 'A' players Jimmy Maher, Ashley Noffke, Andrew Symonds and Nathan Hauritz will bolster the XXXX Queensland Bulls ING Cup squad for their January 2 clash with the Western Warriors in Perth. That quartet will fly from Melbourne to Perth on the morning of the day/night clash on Thursday, arriving a few hours before the game is due to start, having played against Sri Lanka the previous evening at the MCG. However they will miss the Pura Cup game between Queensland and WA starting on Saturday, as they will be required for the Australia 'A' match against Sri Lanka in Adelaide on January 7, the scheduled final day of the four-day match. The Bulls have also been buoyed by the return of quick bowler Michael Kasprowicz, who has overcome a hamstring complaint that forced him to miss Queensland's outright win over Tasmania before Christmas. The Queensland selectors have called on right hander Daniel Payne to fill the batting spot left vacant by Martin Love's selection to play in the Fifth Test at the SCG starting on Wednesday. Payne will make his ING Cup debut for Queensland having made his first class debut last season for the Bulls, playing in the Pura Cup Final win at the Gabba against Tasmania. The Bulls players left for Perth today while the Australia 'A' players are in Melbourne for their one dayer against Sri Lanka on New Year's Day. Queensland will release its Pura Cup team on January 2.
