PCB to organise a grand reception for Pakistan Blind Team Pakistan Cricket Board - 17 December 2002
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to organize a grand reception for the blind cricket team for winning the Blind World Cup in Chennai, India. Pakistan defeated South Africa by five wickets. "It gives us great pleasure to announce the holding of a grand reception for the blind cricket team that has made the nation proud by winning the coveted World Cup. To recognize and celebrate their achievement, the PCB has agreed in principle to organize a reception for the blind cricket team. The date and venue of the reception will be announced later on," acting Director Zakir Khan said Tuesday, adding that PCB Chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia will be the chief guest on the occasion. However, on behalf of the PCB Chairman, Zakir announced a cash award of Rs.300,000 for the blind cricket team. "In addition to the cash award, the PCB has also decided to release a grant of Rs.700,000 for the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC). The PBCC can now clear their debts from that amount," Zakir said. Zakir said the PCB would continue to patronize the PBCC and blind cricketers. "We will not leave any stone unturned and would continue to support and assist them in any form we can."
The PCB also looked after traveling of the blind cricket team in the World Cup. Nearly Rs1.4million were earlier released by the PCB that made their participation in the prestigious event possible.
