Incentive for Pakistan team Sports Reporter - 17 December 2002
Pakistan cricket team have been offered a massive incentive in the shape of Rs 10 million if they succeed in winning the World Cup in South Africa next year. LG Electronics, who are one of the global partners of the International Cricket Council (ICC), announced this package for Pakistan team at a press briefing here on Monday. James Chun, general manager for Pakistan, said that his company will also dish out Rs 7.5 million in case Pakistan finish runners-up in the 14-team competition that runs from Feb 9 to March 23. Pakistan, runners-up in 1999 World Cup, are grouped with reigning champions Australia, arch-rivals India, England, Zimbabwe, Holland and Namibia. The other pool includes hosts South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Kenya and Scotland. Former Pakistan skipper Moin Khan, who was also present on the occasion, said that he will start a coaching academy for boys in the age group of 10-20 soon after the World Cup. © Dawn
