Unique opportunity for Waikato cricket lovers Northern Districts Cricket Association - 16 December 2002
Waikato school children will have the chance to meet the TelstraClear Black Caps this week in a special event planned just for Hamilton. The children are being invited to Walk with the Black Caps along the Waikato riverbank on the eve of the five-day Test against India which starts at Westpac Park on Thursday, December 19. Northern Districts events and communications manager Gary Taylor says the Walk with the Black Caps is designed to give the children the chance to walk with and talk to their cricketing heroes. "It's enormously exciting to be able to offer the kids this opportunity. They see their heroes on television and in the newspapers but they don't often get them see them in person let alone talk to them. It's a very special event because it isn't happening anywhere else in the country," said Gary. The walk starts at the Novotel Hotel in Alma Street at 8.30am on Wednesday, December 18. Fans will stroll with the Black Caps down the steps and along the boardwalk, past the casino and down to the rowing club. It's expected to take about 35 minutes. The kids are being encouraged to bring their autographs books and a camera if they want a photo with a Black Cap. "They can also bring their parents if they like. It's an event designed for the kids but when it comes to cricket fans, you can't put an age limit on it. Everyone's welcome!" © Northern Districts Cricket Association
