Pakistan President congratulates Blind Team on winning World Cup
Pakistan Cricket Board - 14 December 2002

The Patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President General Pervez Musharraf has congratulated the Blind cricket team for winning the World Cup in Chennai.

"It gives me great pleasure to felicitate you on my behalf and on behalf of the people of Pakistan at this momentous victory. The blind cricketers have won laurels in the past also but this is the first time that they have won the coveted World Cup.

"Special persons in Pakistan have enjoyed great privileges and the sports persons in particular have been performing extraordinarily well in Special Olympics and such other international sports events. I am sure the blind cricketers will always keep the country's flag high and bring more honours for the country in the future.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) deserves appreciation for extending all possible financial and other support to ensure the participation of the blind cricket team in this competition," President Musharraf said in a statement.

The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt Gen Tauqir Zia said: "I am delighted with the news that our team has won the World Cup. I always had the confidence in their abilities and they have now shown the world what they are capable of. They have made the country proud and I want to share that delight with them."
