Bihar-Orissa Ranji one-dayer ends in thrilling tie Staff Reporter - 14 December 2002
A fighting bowling performance from Bihar saw their Ranji one-day tie against Orissa at Agartala end in a thrilling tie, providing the spectators with an exciting finish. Winning the toss at the Polytechnic Institute Ground, Orissa asked Bihar to bat. With MS Dhoni and Tariq-ur-Rehman adding 83 runs for the second wicket, Bihar looked set for a big total. But Dhoni fell for 74 (87b, 8x4) in the 30th over, and wickets tumbled rapidly after that. Tariq made a sedate 47 off 85 balls, but none of the subsequent batsmen even managed to cross 20, and Bihar finally to reach 206 for eight in their 50 overs. Two quick wickets fell for Orissa, but BPCC Mohapatra and Sanjay Raul collaborated in a 75-run stabilising third-wicket stand. But once Mohapatra fell (64, 61b, 8x4, 1x6) and Raul followed (53, 109b, 6x4), Bihar bounced back courtesy Shahid Khan, who ended with three wickets for 18 runs off only 10 overs. Orissa lost their final wicket - that of SR Satpathy - with the score on 206, in 47.2 overs. © CricInfo
