After two months, 50 teams and over 80 games, Amberley have ended the Milo Trophy as winners for the first time.
Amberley played Elmwood today in the final at Amberley Domain in extremely blustery conditions, which made it very difficult for all concerned. Amberley captain Jed Robertson won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a slow start, thanks to some tight bowling by Eddie Henley and Angus Elliott.
Amberley ended with 49 off their 10 overs, their lowest total in the competition so far. This was mainly thanks to two solid partnerships, the first between Angela Cumming and Sierra Sunbeam while the second was between Stephen Cline and skipper Robertson.
Elmwood got off to a slow start, only reaching 20 after six of their 10 overs had gone. Robertson bowled well, as did Big Brodie Retallack. With 30 required off the final four overs Elmwood set about their task in an aggressive manner. Henry Flood and Angus Elliott got Elmwood to within 14 runs and the last pair of Alex Ross and Josh Crosby had to score the remaining runs off the two overs.
Tight bowling by Ryan Norman left Elmwood needing 13 off the final over, which was bowled by Oscar McCauley and while Elmwood gave it their best shot, they came up five runs short in the end.
The victory was well deserved by Amberley, who have been the most consistent and well drilled side throughout the competition. Nothing however can be taken away from Elmwood, who bowled great line and length and pushed the class Amberley side all the way, in what proved to be a great final.
