MILO Cup and MILO Shield finals in Palmerston North tomorrow New Zealand Cricket - 11 December 2002
The finals of the national primary school boys' cricket competition, the MILO Cup, and the national primary school girls' cricket competition, the MILO Shield, will be played at Fitzherbert Park in Palmerston North tomorrow. This year's MILO Cup finalists are Medbury School (Christchurch) and Murray's Bay Intermediate (Auckland). These schools came through a four-zone knockout competition of 177 teams from throughout New Zealand. The competition is structured so the best South Island team meets the best North Island team in the final. This year's MILO Shield finalists are Waimea Intermediate (Nelson) and Tauranga Intermediate. The MILO Shield is structured the same way as the MILO Cup but featured 80 teams from throughout New Zealand. New Zealand Cricket development manager Alec Astle said the MILO Cup and the MILO Shield were collectively the biggest primary school teams sporting tournament in the country. "Both the MILO Cup and the MILO Shield been running for three years now and we are expecting an increase in entries for next year," he said. "Like our secondary schools competitions the MILO Cup and the MILO Shield are an important part of New Zealand Cricket's Development Programme. "These young talented players will be our future TelstraClear Black Caps and TelstraClear White Ferns," he said. © New Zealand Cricket
