David Byas to retire Lancashire CCC Press Release - 4 December 2002
It is with much regret that Lancashire County Cricket Club announce that David Byas has declined the Club's offer of a further contract to cover the 2003 season. David commented "My season with Lancashire was a great experience and one I enjoyed very much. However, I feel that at this stage in my career I should concentrate my energies on the family business and decline Lancashire's offer of a further season. I would like to thank the Club for the opportunity they gave me, it was a pleasure to work with Mike Watkinson and Warren Hegg and I wish them every success in the season ahead". Lancashire Cricket Manager, Mike Watkinson, added "I am obviously disappointed that David won't be back with us next season but fully respect the decision he has made. David's professionalism and positive approach was a major factor in the progress we made last season and he will be greatly missed." Byas made a number of vital contributions for the Club including 101 against Warwickshire and when he was awarded his County Cap at the end of the 2002 season, he became the first player to have scored a century and be capped by both Roses Counties. © Lancashire CCC
