Somerset are offering all aspiring young fast bowlers a golden opportunity to impress the coaching staff and the crowds at Taunton tomorrow. During the tea interval of the NUL National League match against Warwickshire Bears tomorrow Somerset are inviting all young bowling hopefuls to come out onto the pitch and bowl at Stumpy the dragon. This activity will be watched carefully by the club's coaching staff, including Peter Robinson who will be on hand to help to supervise the activity. Last time that Stumpy batted against all comers at the County Ground there was just one successful bowler, a young cricketer from Bridgwater who will no doubt be keen to show that his achievement was no flook. Stumpy has also been working hard on his own cricketing skills under the tutelage of former Somerset coach Peter Robinson. This morning at the County Ground `Robbo' told me: "Stumpy is a more than competent all round performer, and I would think he would have to be in contention if an England Dragon XI were ever to be selected." Meanwhile membership secretary Joanne Betsworth told me that a song entitled `Here comes Stumpy' had recently been released by a local band from Bridgwater. Jo told me: "At the moment I haven't been able to obtain a copy of the record, but if there are any website readers who can help me locate a copy I would be very grateful." Anybody who is able to help Jo track down a copy of the record should contact her on 01823 272946. © SOMERSET
