Gloucestershire County Cricket Club are pleased to announce the selection of Tony Wright as their first Academy Director. A player with the Club from 1982 to 1998, and more recently Assistant Coach and 2nd XI Manager, he will bring a wealth of experience to the post which holds the key to the future development of young cricketers in the area.
It is intended to launch the Academy in the autumn of this year.
"I am delighted to have been selected to take on this important new role and look forward to the challenge of developing the wealth of exciting young talent waiting in the wings" said Tony.
John Bracewell, Director of Cricket for Gloucestershire, said
"This is the most important appointment in the Club's modern history. Tony is charged with the responsibility of developing a continuous flow of local cricket talent and taking it into the first class and international arena. We wish to develop programmes and players that will establish Gloucestershire as one of the leading cricketing counties in the country. I have every faith that Tony will not only succeed in this endeavour, but our players more importantly will thrive."
