Dagnall back in Leicestershire squad Leicestershire CCC - 10 August 2002
Charles Dagnall is in Leicestershire's squad for Sunday's vital Norwich Union League game against Durham at Grace Road, after making a good recovery from an operation on his hip. It had been feared that Dagnall could be out for the rest of the season, but after bowling impressively during a net session on Friday he was included in the 13-man squad for the Durham match. A late decision will be made on whether to risk him or not, but coach Phil Whitticase said: "He is certainly in with a chance. He looked good in the nets and bowled very well without any reaction. We will wait and see how he is on Sunday morning, but it is a bonus that he has recovered from the operation so quickly." Dagnall, who joined Leicestershire from Warwickshire in the winter, has played only four games all season - and has not appeared in any of the county's limited-overs matches. His last appearance was against Yorkshire at Grace Road at the end of May when he broke down with the hip problem. The Durham game is Michael Bevan's last for Leicestershire before he leaves to join up with the Australian one-day squad. But he could miss out because of an injury, and will have a late fitness check before a decision is made. If he is ruled out then Rob Cunliffe looks likely to replace him. The Leicestershire squad is: Wells (captain), Ward, Sutcliffe, Stevens, Bevan, Burns(wicket-keeper), DeFreitas, Maddy, Crowe, Grove, Whiley, Cunliffe, Dagnall. © Leicestershire CCC
