The Institute Challenge was developed to provide a one-day cricket competition mirroring the ING Cup for our most talented young players involved in State Institute programs. The challenge also provides scope for promoting the use of sports science initiatives and trialling new rules where appropriate

Whilst the targeted age of the athlete's involved is under 23, the inclusion of one or two first class players (who are over 23) is encouraged. This allows for the younger players to play with and against better players as they prepare for the coming season.

The Challenge will comprise of 5 games throughout the week and the six teams involved are from the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS), the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS), the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS), the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy and a Northern Territory Representative X1.

The Tasmanian TIS Tigers will be conducting a team training camp in preparation for the Challenge in Launceston on Wednesday 14th and Friday 15th August 2002.
