The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) today announced David Moore as a new member of the coaching staff at the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy (CBCA), a program of the AIS.
Moore, 37, will take up a two-year contract as a senior coach at the academy's Adelaide base, joining CBCA Head Coach Bennett King and fellow coaches Wayne Phillips and Troy Cooley.
He begins his post at the academy after a well-rounded career in cricket and education.
A qualified teacher, Moore has been a lecturer in Personal Development, Health and Physical Development at the Australian Catholic University in Sydney and is currently completing a doctorate in education at the University of New England.
He will be responsible for using technology to provide specialist feedback to players, complementing the existing coaching structure.
King said the search for a new member of the CBCA coaching staff had been extensive.
"Given that the academy program now caters for 24 scholars compared to 14 in past years, it was felt that another coaching resource was necessary to give each player sufficient attention when they are in camp," King said.
"With that in mind we have been through a detailed consultation process to ensure we targeted a person who could bring a new range of skills to the program.
"David Moore is well credentialed both as an educator and a cricketer and that mix is what we want as the academy program moves forward," he said
AIS Director Michael Scott said Moore's role would be of great benefit to scholars at the CBCA.
"The program has embarked on the next phase of its development and David Moore's appointment will complement the coaching staff under the guidance Bennett King," Scott said.
Upon assuming his new position David Moore said he was delighted to take on the role.
"I am thrilled to be a part of the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy's plans and am thoroughly looking forward to working with Australia's emerging talent," Moore said.
"I hope that I can introduce new ways of looking at things and provide some extra insight into the way cricketers can set goals to improve," he said.
An ACB Level Three accredited coach, Moore was appointed the Head Coach of the New South Wales (NSW) women's side in 2001, leading the team to victory in the Women's National Cricket League.
He also leaves his post as coach of the Balmain Cricket Club in Sydney.
As a cricketer, he represented NSW at all levels, from colts to Sheffield Shield between 1983 and 1989. His state under-19 team mates included Steve and Mark Waugh, Mark Taylor, Gavin Robertson and Brad McNamara.
A wicket-keeper, Moore played first-grade cricket in Sydney with the St George and Waverley Cricket Clubs between 1984 and 1993, making his first-class debut in 1986-87.
