Jamie Cox will join Somerset players for nets on Friday morning
Richard Walsh - 18 April 2002

After the impressive batting display against Hampshire at the County Ground yesterday the Somerset players have been involved with a mixture of activities today.

Assistant coach Mark Garaway, who was in charge yesterday in the absence of Kevin Shine, was back at the Centre of Excellence where he was organising practice activities for the Academy youngsters. Working alongside the young players were staff players Peter Bowler, Keith Dutch, Carl Gazzard and Tom Webley.

Before the morning started Mark told me: "They will be splitting into three groups. One group will be in the nets indoors, one group will be working on a fielding activity outside and the third group will be doing a throw down activity, and for each one they will be set little targets."

A number of the players joined with Rob Turner on his golf day at Teignmouth Golf Club in Devon, where providing the weather was kind they will all have had an enjoyable day.

The assistant coach continued: "All of the players will be reporting in on Friday morning for nets. Our main activity now is to make sure that they are all fully fit for the opening match on April 24th against Sussex."

It is expected that Kevin Shine will be back at the County Ground in the morning as will Jamie Cox who returned to Somerset early on Thursday.
