Somerset recorded a comfortable 221 run victory over Cardiff UCCE at Millfield School today.
Before the start of play Steffan Jones suffered an ankle injury that prevented him from taking any further part in the match. However it seems that whilst the injury will prevent him from playing in the one day friendly against Hampshire at Taunton on Wednesday it is hoped that he will have made a full recovery in time for the first championship match against Sussex a week later.
Resuming on their overnight score of 54 for 6 the Cidermen took the total onto 129 for 8 of which Matt Bulbeck contributed a valuable 60 before they declared leaving the students requiring 330 for victory.
In their second innings the Cardiff UCCE batsmen struggled against the Somerset attack and were all out for 108 in 45.5 overs, with Keith Dutch being the pick of the home bowlers ending with 4 wickets for 8 runs from his 7 overs.
After the game Somerset coach Kevin Shine told me: "It was a good clinical performance by everyone. All of our bowlers had a good run out in their second innings and performed well."
