North Zone canter to victory at Indore Staff Reporter - 5 April 2002
A target of 137 was never going to overly tax North Zone on the final day of their Duleep Trophy encounter against Central Zone, and Akash Chopra, the first-innings centurion, played a star turn again to take his team to victory. North Zone needed only 22.5 overs to achieve their target on the final morning, but they did suffer a couple of setbacks during their chase. Sangram Singh was dismissed for 28 off 84 balls with four hits to the fence, falling to Narendra Hirwani with the score on 95. Shafiq Khan was also dismissed cheaply, making only one before getting out to Kulamani Parida. But Mithun Manhas made an unbeaten 20 to accompany Chopra's 69 not out. The North Zone opener's innings included 13 fours and took 108 balls. North Zone thus won the match by seven wickets, notching up eight points in the process. © CricInfo
